Our next zoom moot will be on the recurring biblical figure of the outlaw, the villain, the person in chains and on trial, the political exile, the miscreant, the deviant and the outcast. This character recurs so often and in so many guises and narratives and varying degrees of guilt and innocence. Whether they're right or wrong, the commonality is of the marginal character who becomes a problem. The diversity of the cast gives so many edges to the complex dynamics of what it means to find oneself as an enemy. From this standpoint, salvation by forgiveness has two forgotten siblings in the biblical imagination: liberation and vindication.
The moot takes place Sun 30th July, 9pm BST. Free to all paid substack subscribers and Patreons. £10 otherwise. Please send a message if you'd like to join.
